Advising

Academic advising is a hallmark of the First Year of Studies
More than a dozen full-time faculty advisors assist incoming students in making the transition from being talented high school students to becoming successful Notre Dame students. You, and all other first years, will be assigned an advisor.
- Beginning in the summer before you come to campus, your advisor will oversee the choice of courses and the building of schedules, matching your backgrounds and plans with the offerings at Notre Dame.
- Soon after you arrive on campus, your advisor will arrange a meeting with you, to offer support as you adjust to the demands of university courses. Your advisor will let you know about resources and programs at Notre Dame and assist you in choosing your direction and set goals for your time at Notre Dame.
- At the end of the spring semester, your advisor will help in the planning of your schedules for your sophomore year and then make sure your records are sent to the appropriate offices.
- Throughout your first year, faculty advisors will take a personal interest in your adjustment and progress Assisted by a team of talented senior peer advisors, your academic advisor will keep in touch with you and offer help in all areas. You can expect personal attention from the First Year of Studies as you meet the challenges of Notre Dame as your advisor will reach out to you to arrange meetings, but you can also ask for a meeting at any time.
